Ontario Extends Ginseng Storage Loan Guarantee Pilot Program

Apr 22, 2026

GUELPH, Ontario – The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA) has extended the Ginseng Storage Loan Guarantee Pilot Program (GSLGPP) for an additional year, effective April 1, 2026.

Eligible Ontario ginseng producers may now access the program until March 31, 2027. This will be followed by a twoyear winddown period, with all loans issued in 2027 required to be fully repaid by March 31, 2029.

The program was originally established by the Government of Ontario to support the ginseng sector during market disruptions caused by the COVID19 pandemic. It will continue to assist the sector in managing ongoing market challenges in the current economic environment.

The GSLGPP is administered by Agricultural Credit Corporation (ACC).

“This program plays an important role in helping ginseng producers manage cash flow and respond to market volatility,” said Jaye Atkins, Chief Executive Officer of ACC. “Access to lowcost, flexible financing allows producers to market their product strategically and strengthens the longterm stability of the sector.”

To be eligible, producers must be enrolled in AgriStability and own the ginseng inventory being financed. The loan structure supports lowinterest borrowing, repayment as product is sold, and marketing ginseng when prices are most advantageous.

Funding is available each year beginning in April, and eligible producers may apply at any time during the year while ginseng inventories are available. Producers can access financing of up to $1,000,000 per year at the Prime Interest Rate.
